Happy Valentine's Day!!
Being as it's Valentine's Day, I thought it would be fun to do a Husband-Themed Little Things Thursday! We don't celebrate Valentine's Day over here, simply because it seems silly to us to do romantic things on a designated romantic day. Instead, we like to surprise each other one random day within a month or two of February 14th. It's a lot more fun!
But honestly, one day doesn't make or break a relationship. Instead, it's the little things that happen everyday that shape how a marriage functions. So today, I'd like to share a few things that my husband does consistently for me just because he loves me.
1. Sets Out My Vitamins
The bills stress me out to no end. I'm talking, "lose sleep, stomach churning" stress. I just can't handle knowing how quickly Sean's hard earned money heads back out the door. I do need to learn our household finances in case something ever happens, but Sean has taken over the duty and quietly leaves me in the dark so that I don't have to worry about it.
3. "Take a Nap, Woman!"
Every morning on his way out the door, Sean tells me to take a nap if possible. I need more sleep than most, and he always tells me to take time to care for myself. I used to feel a lot of guilt for taking a nap when he was working so hard, but I really appreciate his insistence that I stop long enough to rest. It makes for a much happier, less-stressed wife/mommy!
4. Post Dinner Clean-Up Buddy
5. Loves Our Kids...and PLAYS with Them!
6. Never Complains About Long Work Hours
7. Always Watches the Scary Show First
Speaking of which, not every daddy is so invested in his kids. He LOVES playing with them and letting them crawl all over him. It means the world to me to see that he loves them enough to be interested in what they are interested in.
My man works some seriously long hours. Yet, I never hear him complain about working late or working on the weekends. I'm grateful for how positive he is. I know that will influence how our kids see the world as they get older.
I get spooked so easily. It's actually pretty hilarious! Sean always makes sure that if we are sitting down to watch Netflix, that we watch the "scary" show first (i.e. Walking Dead) and then the lighter show second (i.e. Psych, Once Upon a Time) so that I have some distance the first one. It's extremely thoughtful...and much appreciated! :)
There are so many more little things that he does that I appreciate, but I would have to devote an entire blog to it. So instead, I'll stop here and say,
"Thanks, Babe! All of your sweet actions don't go unnoticed!"
I'm also going to do a shameless plug for the latest article I wrote for KC Parent Magazine. The article is called "Staying Connected with Your Spouse." It's about how Sean and I connect everyday in 15 minutes or less.
And if you can't get enough marriage stuff with it being Valentine's Day, you are welcome to go back and read my previous posts called, "Marriage and Multiples: The Little Moments" and "Marriage and Multiples: The Importance of Away Time."

What a cute article, I love happy stories. Sounds like your husband is a great catch! My hubby also lets us watch the scary one first because I get spooked super easily too! Happy Valentine's Day, thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day to you too! Your hubby sounds very thoughtful as well! :)
DeleteI wish my husband would tell me to take a nap. He knows I need more sleep than most too but gets annoyed if I tell him I napped. I love that you watch all the shows that I too. :D

Such good shows! They are definitely watched after the kids go down for the night though.
DeleteWhat a sweet post! This is what real life, love, marriage and family are made of. It's not about a single day, it's EVERYDAY!
ReplyDeleteIt is an everyday thing, and it takes a lot of work to keep a marriage alive. But it's so worth it!
DeleteMy husband encourages naps and brings me home Sonic ice because I love it so much. I also never lift heavy things - he does all of that for me - He also turns on my side of the heated mattress pad so I crawl into a warm bed every night. He's simply adorable and amazing - I respect and love him so much I sometimes really start to almost ache I miss him some days when he goes to work. Oh yeah - he goes to work everyday so he can keep me home...
ReplyDeleteHe sounds like such a sweetheart! And Sonic ice? That takes love to a whole new level. :)
DeleteWhat a sweet post! I just ran across your blog and was instantly drawn in. I have four girls (6,4 and almost 3), including identical twins. My older two were 3 and 18 months when the twins were born...I can only imagine 4 newborns at once!
ReplyDeleteMy husband is amazing too...and it's so nice to read a positive post about marriage! My husband is so sweet and says I love you multiple times a day! He also helps with all the chores and the ultimate act of love: cleans the toilets for me! =) I'm so thankful for him!
Thanks for writing a sweet post about your husband!
I think husbands get a bad rap far too often. Marriage is hard work and has it's ups and downs, but I think it's important to focus on the good stuff!
DeleteFour kids under 3? Whoa, girl! You are busy! I'm so glad that you husband was supportive then and is still supportive now. Any husband who cleans toilets is a keeper! :)
Thanks for visiting and commenting! :)
