Maybe you could answer a question: when you sign up to sponsor a child, exactly what is the commitment? In addition to a financial obligation, are you agreeing to write letters or do anything else (in addition to praying, of course)? And do you frequently receive extra requests from Compassion once you're signed up?Nancynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3459178608294921310.post-87931899674530999702013-09-18T14:31:25.219-05:002013-09-18T14:31:25.219-05:00That's awesome, Kari! :)That's awesome, Kari! :)Rustie D.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3459178608294921310.post-61714552023056524182013-09-18T14:30:35.606-05:002013-09-18T14:30:35.606-05:00Karen & Gerard, I did the same thing. I first sponsored a child through Children International, but as I learned more about Compassion International, I felt compelled to switch because of the emphasis on Jesus. Once my sponsored child through Children International reaches 18, I will then switch to sponsor one through Compassion since they also tell them about Jesus. I'm so happy you did, I'm sure you made that man's day with a small act of kindness. It's even better that you are generously giving to help the lives of children. Like you, our giving to her has always been a priority. We had a few months when our twins were right around one that we had no jobs between the both of us (my husband was attending a training academy) the cost of his school, a house payment and an apartment (we had to temporarily relocate for his academy), and we never let go of that call. No matter what we didn't have then, she has always had less. One time we sent an extra donation to her and later she thanked us for her bag of apples. Wow.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3459178608294921310.post-60914353951140464072013-09-14T01:28:43.251-05:002013-09-14T01:28:43.251-05:00I started to sponsor a little girl named Sefora fr...I started to sponsor a little girl named Sefora from Nicaragua about 3 years ago. I graduated college and not long after was labeled permanently disabled and my only 'income' is from SSI. I really needed every penny I could get, but I didn't feel right about ending my sponsorship. So I continued to send notes and packages to her and I was so sad about 3 months ago when I got a letter stating that she had moved out of the area where they can help people. They picked out another child and gave me the option to sponsor her, but I just really don't have the money and if I will be disabled my whole life (I'm only 27), I may never have a job and an income. I only continued to sponsor Sefora when money was so tight because I didn't want to abandon her. But now she's gone and I am really bummed that I don't have a sponsored child. I hope that someday I am able to sponsor again. I miss being able to help people. I'm not able to go to church, either, so I miss out on serving there. I didn't mean for this to be so long and drawn out... I just wanted to share my experience with sponsoring a child. It was amazing until it abruptly ended and I wish I had a chance to say goodbye to Sefora. I don't think it really matters, but I sponsored through WorldVision and not Compassion. They seem pretty similar to me.Sarah Maehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07864351891597783739noreply@blogger.com
