Talk about a blast from the past!
Several months ago, a sweet gal emailed me about doing a Discovery Toys giveaway. As we emailed back and forth discussing options, she sent me a link to what she wanted to offer to my readers:
No way! I grew up with those! Seriously! My mom had that set of three
Place and Trace Puzzles, and my siblings and I used to sit around our own Little Tykes Table and play with them. Using my stellar drawing skills, I used to trace the dinosaurs and then draw silly smiley faces on them. Ha!
So when Amy suggested this as the toy that she was thinking about offering, I thought it would be perfect! Having personal childhood experience with these, I just knew that my kids would love getting to grow up with them as well.
All nostalgia aside, these toys are extremely versatile and easily grow with kids. That kind of flexibility is one of the top things I look for when picking out toys to take up space in our living room. The toy comes boxed up with a guide to help parents understand the different activities that can be done with them.
Right now, my kids are using the toys in the most basic format: as puzzles and as a way to encourage speech development. While we are putting the puzzles together, we practice saying the names of the puzzle pieces, like "dog," "cat," and "car." Because they are different colors, we can practice saying and identifying those as well.
Caleb and Abby
As they grow older, we will use them as templates to make rubbings, as cookie cutters for play dough, as a child's version of Bingo, and as stencils (and then, of course, draw silly smiley faces on the dinosaurs!)! Oh yes, we are going to play the heck out of these! And as a perk, I also know that the sturdy plastic toys can withstand being played with by quadruplets since I have five younger siblings myself!
Elijah and Ellie
So all that to say, I'm super excited to get to offer you a set of puzzles to play with at your house! There are so many different ways to use these, and they can easily be adapted to a wide age range. I'm sure you will love having them in your toy box!
And because I can't help revisiting the nostalgic side of this one more time, I saw a couple of other toys in her store that I grew up with too.
Giant Pegboard, anyone? I can't be the only kid who got to play with these. Do you recognize anything from your childhood? Maybe it's time to stock up for your own kids!
