Dear Mom Who is Tired of Reading "Dear Mom" Posts

Dear Mom,

I see you sitting there in front of your computer.

You're tired and taking a much needed break. You've turned on an episode of Dora the Explorer for the kids and settled yourself into a chair at the kitchen table. You reach to tug your computer closer to you since you've pushed it back so little fingers don't send FaceBook messages to all of your friends.

Glancing toward the quiet living room, you settle in to scroll through your news feed. When did it fill with so many photos of dogs? It's not that you don't care about dogs. You just don't have time to even think about adding a dog to your family when the munchkins in the living room already eat up all of your time...and food. Then there are the friends whose vague statuses leave you wondering what exactly they are getting at. You've given up on reading those. Not enough brain cells left at the end of the day to decode messages. Candy Crush notifications flow through your feed as you see that more friends have conquered the next level. You on the other hand, are still stuck on level 65 because the stupid chocolate won't stop growing. Then you realize that your best friend's birthday was yesterday because someone just wrote "happy birthday" on their wall. You forgot it. Thank goodness most people haven't figured out their privacy settings yet so that you can see what "friends of friends" post.

And then you see it. Hidden amongst the photos of new landscaping, vacations, and slightly tipsy drinking photos in your newsfeed is a blog post.

Another "Dear Mom" post.

You read the first two sentences that have been pulled into FaceBook with the title and realize that you haven't read this one yet. But you read two different ones last week, and at least eight different ones last month.

Hmm...for a brief moment you consider reading this one too, but then you realize that they all say pretty much the same thing. And you could write your own "Dear Mom" post without even trying.

You already know about the jelly on the backside of the highchair. And honestly, you don't care. It isn't hurting anyone just sitting there. Besides, the bug guy came and sprayed last week, so it won't attract anything anyway. Sure, there are piles of clothes to wash, but there are also still mostly-clean clothes to wear tomorrow. Eh, never do today what will keep until tomorrow...or something like that. And even though you're tired, you know nap time is coming. Some moms work on cleaning the house straight through nap time. Not you though. You always fully embrace the kids' nap, because you like to takes naps yourself. No harm in a little downtime.

As you sit back in your chair, you know that your quiet minutes are coming to an end. But now you are curious. How many times is a blogger going to rip off of this idea and write a letter to other moms? You hate to say it, but you're pretty sure that this writing device has run it's course.

As the closing theme song for Dora the Explorer plays in the background, you decide against clicking through to the post and play level 65 in Candy Crush again instead. And silently, you hope that other bloggers catch on to the fact that the "Dear Mom" posts are overused and come up with something different in the future.

(This is totally written tongue in cheek in case you couldn't tell. I'm not knocking any particular blogger, because I think they truly have some wonderful things to say. But seriously, is anyone else getting tired of the "Dear Mom" posts?? If so, don't forget to !)

    2. Hmm...maybe I read in different circles than you all? All I know is that my FaceBook feed has been filled with them!

  3. Yes. They're good posts, but maybe it's time to branch out onto other types of posts too?

  5. Haha, I just started a series on my blog that are basically letters to my (pregnant) self! So kind of on the Dear Mom track. And if your dear mom letter describes your own situation then I can definitely relate! Favoring naps instead of cleaning...it's a no-brainer! :)

    1. Oh yeah! I'm cranky if I don't get a nap. It's a sad, but true fact. :)

And that's fun that you're writing letters to your pregnant self. You'll want to remember it someday!

    1. Very true, and blogs should contain what the writers want. I guess I've just seen an overabundance of them all come through at the same time.
