{Comments for a Cause} Alexandra's House - October 2013

Yay! Thank you all for participating in the first month of Comments for a Cause! I spent some time this afternoon counting up all of the comments on non-giveaway posts. We had 149 comments this month! Because of that, we will be donating an extra $14.90 over our regular contributions to Compassion International.

Additionally, one of our readers let us know that they decided to sponsor a child! That's HUGE! To be honest, Sean and I were practically giddy with the news that another child is being cared for and given food, water, an education, and being taught about Jesus. Were you thinking about sponsoring a child and didn't get a chance to? It's not too late! Click over and look through some of the faces of the children who are still waiting.

Now onto October's cause!
This month, our cause is Alexandra's House. We choose this ministry in honor of our niece, Aubree, who passed away in August after a terminal diagnosis in the womb.

Alexandra's House is a local organization that helps parents continue pregnancies after a fatal diagnosis. They provide a number of services including: perinatal hospice support (for expected losses), infant loss support (for unexpected losses), support for parents who are pregnant after a loss, 3D sonograms, burial services, and a trip to Build-a-Bear for the surviving siblings. And that's only a short list of what this organization tries to offer to families who are in the midst of or are healing from infant loss.

For October, we are supporting this ministry that makes it possible for parents to have the support they need to continue carrying and loving their babies even when they know they will lose them. We hope you will partner with us by leaving lots of comments during the month so that we can send them a good-sized donation at the end!

Remember, for every comment left on a non-giveaway blog post during October, we will donate $0.10 to Alexandra's House!

Thank for being an all around awesome community! You guys bless me so much every day! :)

If you choose to sponsor a child through the link above, Compassion International will give our sponsored child an extra gift.  We get nothing beyond that. :) For more info, please see my disclaimer page.

  1. I was excited too when I saw that someone else decided to join the Compassion family - awesome news! :)

Alexandra's House sounds like an amazing cause. A friend of mine unexpectedly lost one of her 8-month old twin girls yesterday, so this cause is especially meaningful to me right now. Anything that can be some help and comfort to grieving parents is a blessing and answer to prayer. Great choice.

    1. Oh goodness, Rustie. I'm so sorry to hear of your friend's loss. I can't imagine her pain. Perhaps this organization would be a good resource for her?

  3. What a worthy cause. I love the Build-a-Bear idea. Often it seems like the children in the family get left out a bit. Everyone gathers 'round and helps the parents to grieve, but it seems like too many times the other kids aren't given much opportunity to express grief. At least, that has been my experience. My sister was stillborn and I am always finding objects that remind me of her, like a family peapod necklace with an angel with her birthstone. I think about her every day, but I like to have a physical reminder, too. It also helps to start conversations with other people.
