“I participated in an Influencer Program on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for HoneyBaked Ham. I received a gift card to facilitate my shopping trip and to thank me for participating.”
Having Thanksgiving so late in November has really thrown me off. I don't think there is enough time between Thanksgiving and Christmas normally, so this year I feel extra rushed. As someone put it, "Only 11 sleeps until Christmas!"
What?!
With Sean's time off, we want to be able to spend extra time with family and friends, but with the list of things that I need to do, I really don't have time to put together dinner for company right now. If you've been following my meal plan every Monday, you will have noticed that our own dinners have become progressively simpler the closer we get to Christmas. If I have extra time, I'd rather hang out with my family, than cook a big meal in the kitchen. Can you blame me? The kiddos will only want to snuggle for so much longer!
Last week,
Honeybaked Ham asked if they could send me a gift certificate to try their products and enjoy a meal with my family. Uh...okay! I'd heard of the wonders of Honeybaked Ham, and I *think* I'd had a bite of one once, but my own ham? Done and done! And since we like to make the most of our opportunities to see friends, we asked Michael and Stacey and their five girls if they would like to help us eat it.
It was my first time visiting the store, so I was really surprised by how it worked. I'm used to digging through the freezer section at the grocery store, pulling out a ham, and then having to let it defrost for several days in my refrigerator. It was completely different here!
A really nice employee asked if he could help me. He was very knowledgeable about the hams, and talked through how many people I wanted to feed and the ages of the kids. With his help, I settled on a 7 pound ham. He walked over to the cooler behind the counter, carefully picked out a ham, and then brought it back to where I was standing. And then he unwrapped it. That's what really got me. I didn't have to squint at a frozen ham through shrink wrap.
Honeybaked Hams are already thawed, and I got to look right at the ham with nothing blocking my view. It was really pretty! (Who would have thought a ham could look like that!) Even better, he continued to pull out and unwrap hams, letting me pick the one that I liked the best. I like to think that that is what butcher shops used to be like instead of those meat sections where everything is wrapped in cling wrap.
I even had enough leftover on the gift certificate to also choose three sides, so we ended up with a
Honeybaked Ham, Potatoes Au Gratin, Sweet Potato Souffle, and Broccoli Rice Casserole.
Heating it was easy. Everything, ham and sides, went into the oven for just over an hour, and came out ready to eat. It was almost too easy! I'm used to fighting with my ham for awhile.
And then we headed over to our friends' house for dinner!
As much as everyone enjoyed the sides, it was the ham that took center stage. How fun to enjoy such a gourmet meal with fabulous company, and have zero work on my part (plus I got a nap this afternoon. Seriously!)
I'd also like to give a special shoutout to Michael and Stacey for having us and our crazy two-year-old quadruplets over. They are a brave family! :-)
