The Little Things Thursdays: #86

Welcome to The Little Things Thursday!!

If you are new to our link-up, we like to take a minute to look back on the little things that brightened our week. So often we get busy and forget all of the things that we enjoy as we go through our daily lives. This is an opportunity to stop, remember, and enjoy those things! Nothing is too small...in fact, the smaller the better! That's the whole point! If you have a blog, link-up below. If you don't blog, I'd love for you to participate by leaving a comment. Ready?

1. This is Why We Don't Stand on Beds
Elijah

We've always thought that Elijah would be our child "most likely to get hurt." Poor kid! On Saturday afternoon, we were all getting ready to take a nap when Elijah fell out of his brother's bed. Yes, he was standing in it. This is why beds are for sleeping, not for standing. He hit the hardwood floor face first and split his chin. I had no idea that chins could bleed that much. It was gushing. Literally, gushing blood all over the place. We used a combo of lavender essential oil and pressure until we could get him seen at Urgent Care. We were, happily, able to slow the bleeding down significantly, and the pain reliever qualities of the lavender tided us over until they applied numbing cream for stitches. I was really hoping it would be a glue job, but because of how deeply he split it, he ended up getting three stitches instead.

He was a trooper though! Unfortunately, I'm not holding my breath that this is the last time we rush him somewhere for stitches.

2. Encouragement
Elijah, Caleb, Abby, and Ellie

It's been a long couple of weeks for various reasons, and a mysterious friend on FaceBook picked up on that, and the fact that I'm still wrestling with Caleb's diagnosis. While we were at Urgent Care with Elijah, someone anonymously dropped off two dozen amazing cupcakes at our house! My brother was staying with the other three kids, and when I asked him to describe what the person looked like, I got, "She was a woman, and she had brown hair." Thanks, Buddy. That really narrows it down. Lol!

I think I figured out who it was, but it's amazing how much this brighten my very tired day (and week and couple of months).

And last week, another friend found my coke bottle! She dropped it off with the sweetest encouraging card! I should add that when she dropped the coke off, it still had the beverage in it. I just drank it before I thought to take a photo. Lol!
Goodness, the encouragement has done so much for me this week! I needed to be reminded that I'm not walking this motherhood road alone. Sometimes I forget that my support system has my back, and it gets lonely sorting through the ins and outs of raising our kids. So thanks, friends! Thanks for not letting me do this by myself!

3. Sisters
Ellie and Abby

These girls are so proud of being sisters. They LOVE the fact that they belong together. :) It makes my heart happy!

This weekend, Ellie asked Abby if she could brush her hair. They happily sat on the couch together as Ellie made Abby "pretty!" Aw, don't ever grow up!

4. #JBFKC Sale

I hit one of the Just Between Friends sales in the metro this weekend! I'm excited to report that I now have ALL of the winter coats, snow pants, and snow boots I need to dress four kids. Plus, I did all of our Christmas shopping except for a few small items for their stocking stuffers.

But that's not the best part! The best part was definitely finding the trikes! Last week, a friend gave me their trike that they were finished with, and then today, I found three more for a total of $35 at the sale. Each of our kids is going to get their own trike for Christmas! That means that on average for 4 trikes, I spent $8.75 each. Um....how insane is that?!  Yay!

I love consignment sale shopping because it makes everything so much more affordable. I don't even know how much 4 brand new trikes would cost, but I do know that it would be out of our price range. If you are in Kansas City, there is still SO much good stuff left! I went to the JBF Overland Park media presale today, and it opens to the general public tomorrow. I highly recommend popping over!

  2. So nice the sisters get along so well. I bet they will continue to do so throughout life. The cupcakes were a nice surprise, love the description you got of the deliverer, how funny! Wonder if Elijah will be standing on beds anymore after this incident--hope not, poor kid.

  3. We've seen almost that exact same injury - only here it was when daredevil male offspring flipped over the handle bars of his bike. (maybe that's not a great thing to share right after you bought trikes! YIKES) Love how God is pouring encouragement into you life just when you need it so much. :0) Have a great week! As always - thank you so much for hosting this link up!
