Quad FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about Our Quadruplets

Wow! You have four babies?! Were they natural?
Well, yes. Aren't all babies 100% natural? But if you are asking if we had assistance, then yes. Becca swallowed some little blue pills for two months to induce ovulation. Long story short, it worked!

Did you have the babies by cesarean section?
Yes. Doctors rarely let anyone giving birth to twins or more try to have a vaginal birth. It is just too dangerous.

Did you know what you were having before giving birth?
We found out at 5 weeks, 5 days of gestation that we were having a whole litter of babies, and it was confirmed that there were quads nine days later. As for their genders, we had had enough surprises to last a lifetime, so we found out their genders as soon as possible so that we could prepare!

Does Becca have help while Sean is at work?
We have been beyond blessed with an outpouring of support from a couple of area churches. Now that we have established ourselves a bit, Becca does most of it on her own, but her mom does stop by the house for a few hours each week to give her a hand.

Are any of them twins or triplets?
Officially, no. They each had their own sack and own placenta. Definitely the ideal way to carry higher order multiples! But we have a sneaking suspicion that our boys may actually be identical twins and that the egg separated early enough that they each had their own sack. That does happen! Even their NICU nurses and people that have been in our house weekly still get them mixed up. If they still look alike in a few years, we will have the twin test done.

What is that bump on Ellie's forehead?
Ellie has two hemangiomas: one on her hip and one on her forehead. They are basically raised birthmarks and are very common in infants. Most of the time, hemangiomas disappear by the time the child starts kindergarten. Ellie's has already faded considerably since she was born.

When one baby wakes up at night crying, does he/she wake all the other babies up?
Not usually. Sometimes one or two babies will move around a bit, but generally the crying baby settles down within a minute or two. If he/she does wake up another baby, that baby rarely makes noise. They just observe what we are doing and then go back to sleep. For the most part though, our babies are awesome sleepers! They don't cry when we put them down for naps or bedtime, and they know exactly what they are supposed to do in their cribs. We are very blessed!!

Do they have their own personalities yet?
Oh my word, yes! They already had their own personalities in the NICU...heck, they had their own personalities in the womb! They definitely keep us laughing! For more on their personalities, check out the "Meet Our Quads" page.

Hi. I have four 17-month old toddlers and get many of those same questions. I am starting a linky event once per week for blogs about multiples. If you are interested, you can contact me at amultiplesmom@gmail.com. You could link to one of your posts each week.
