We have been so blessed by so many people since our babies were born. You name it and we've probably had someone come help us with it: laundry, meals, middle of the night feedings, help during doctor's appointments, gifts of diapers, clothes and other baby things, yard work...heck, there was even a woman who came over and gave me three private cooking classes so that I would have some easy family-friendly recipes that would work for company too! Seriously, we have some of the best, most genuine friends in the world!
But I have to say that some of my most treasured gifts are the gifts of photos. There have been a couple of friends who have taken photos for us at different points during the first year of the babies' life, but there is one set that I haven't shared with you yet! I've been sitting on them for a few months, and I've been so antsy to get them up on the blog!!
I originally met Rachel of
Salt and Light Photography back when we were both still in high school. My first memory of her involves driving her home after she came over to hang out at our house. We lost touch after that as I moved to Illinois for a short stint as a live-in nanny and then moved back to Kansas City for college.
We eventually reconnected when FaceBook recommended that we be friends (does anyone besides me find it weird that FB does that?!). That was several years ago. I'm so glad that FaceBook reconnected us! :)
She emailed me at the beginning of the year and said that she would like to give us a first birthday gift of photos of the babies! I was so excited since having the babies pretty much nipped all discretionary income in the bud. What a spectacular gift! One of the reasons that I blog is because I want to freeze these quickly passing days so that I can look back on them in the future. And to have professional photos to help me save the memories? Priceless!!
The kids were still on lockdown at the time, but they really wanted us to have the photos, so they made it work. Rachel and her husband Austin loaded their portable studio into their car, drove to our house, and set it up in our living room.

Aw! I'm impressed every time I look at these. If you didn't know that they were taken in our living room with VeggieTales playing in the background to keep them entertained, you wouldn't have a clue!
One of the things that I appreciated the most though, was the patience that Rachel and Austin had while working with our family. Rachel completely let the kids decide how the session would run, and Austin jumped in where necessary to entertain and redirect kids back to the set. We even had to completely stop the shoot at one point because Ellie needed a sensory break, and Rachel and Austin played with the other babies while we waited for Ellie to calm down. Taking photos of four one-year-olds isn't easy, and that's why I so appreciated the thoughtfulness and work that went into this gift for our family.
And now they want to extend it to you and your family!
