*cue Dracula voice* "I vant to drink your BLOOD!"
I swear that's what the mosquitoes say when I walk outside. I'm eaten alive, I tell you. And my poor kids seem to have the same sweet blood running through their veins, especially my Ellie.
I wish I loved going in the backyard, but it's particularly bad out there. Because we live at the bottom of the hill, we tend to collect the rain from our yard and the yard behind us. The mosquitoes think we set it up that way just for them, and watching my kids come back inside and itch for days just isn't much fun for any of us.
If you are thinking that I have a solution for the mosquitoes....I don't. Sorry. I've seen something floating around Pinterest about a penny in a bag of water, but I don't know if that works (it sounds weird to me...) But I do have a solution for the kiddos after the mosquitoes enjoy their feast!
BeKoool has a new product on the market for itches resulting from poison ivy and insect bites, including that of the dreaded mosquito! Normally, I don't go for product pitches like this, but let me share with you why I like this product for kids over the bug bite creams on the market.
At our house, this is the issue:
Does anyone else have children who feel the need to lick everything?! I really thought we would be past the phase of putting everything in our mouths at this point.
With that still being a major issue at our house, I worry about putting bug bite cream on them since they will lick it off. And I'm certainly not going to keep them in the house all summer.
BeKoool has these little medicated patches that cover bug bites and do two things: They keep my kids from licking any itch cream and also keep them from itching the bite until it bleeds. Since the patches are medicated, no additional itch cream is needed. They are also clear, so they aren't noticeable on the skin.
In an effort to fully vet the product, I stood outside and told the mosquitoes to come at me. The bad news is that it doesn't look like the mosquitoes will be giving up their free meal ticket anytime soon. The good news is that the patches really do stop the itching, and since I couldn't get to the bites to itch them, they healed more quickly than usual. I'm happy to say that it worked for the kids too!

I totally want to try those patches! My boys got eaten alive by mosquitoes when we visited a state park in New York earlier this summer. When we had the opportunity to go back there, one of them said, "But that's the place with the mosquitoes!" (Thankfully it was MUCH better the second time.) Anyway, they do tend to get bitten a lot more than I do and I would love to see if these patches could give them a little relief!
ReplyDeleteI would love to sit outside and read a book in the sun... but like you, mosquitoes are drawn to me! I can't go out (even with bug spray on) without getting at least a few bites.
