Let's do something a little different, shall we?
I normally do one or two children's book giveaways a month, but this time, I think we will spring for a DVD! How does that sound?
The Prodigal Pig is part of the "On The Farm with Farmer Bob" series. This 60 minute DVD is a re-telling of the Prodigal Son story from
Luke 15:11-32. Porkchop is a pig with dreams of making it big as a musician. Instead, he finds himself stuck on a farm. One day, he decides to ask Farm Bob for his allowance for the next ten years so that he can strike out on his own and become famous in the music business. Farmer Bob is a bit unsure about the plan, but agrees to give him what he asked for.
Porkchop meets up with some new friends who are supposed to help him become a famous musician, but it soon becomes apparent that they aren't really friends at all. Before long, he finds himself stuck, with no money, and no friends.
Just like in the Prodigal Son parable, Porkchop ends up finding forgiveness and is accepted back home to the farm after a daring rescue by his animal friends.
Featuring the voice talents of Randy Travis, Amy Grant, and Vince Gill,
The Prodigal Pig is a funny show that will entertain kids. Additionally, the DVD has a bonus section full of educational features. There is an extra cartoon that features the letter "P," a read-along storybook, and a version of the DVD that pops the word onto the screen if it begins with the letter "P."
My kids thought this movie was fun!! It is still a bit on the older side for their age, so I'm not sure how much they caught of it, but I think in a year or so, this will become a favorite! Also, it has bluegrass music in it, so you can be sure that Mom and Dad think it's fun too!
The Prodigal Pig retails for $7.99. But, you can snag it for only $3.99 on
Amazon right now!
