The Little Things Thursdays: #48

Welcome to The Little Things Thursday!!

If you are new to our link-up, we like to take a minute to look back on the little things that brightened our week. So often we get busy and forget all of the things that we enjoy as we go through our daily lives. This is an opportunity to stop, remember, and enjoy those things! Nothing is too small...in fact, the smaller the better! That's the whole point! If you have a blog, link-up below. If you don't blog, I'd love for you to participate by leaving a comment. Ready?

First things first: I know it's Wednesday! I got to thinking about the fact that I always post my Little Things Thursday post between 10pm-11pm. In other words, I'm barely squeaking in under the midnight deadline. That means that most of you all don't even read the post until Friday. Moving up my posting to earlier in the day really isn't an option since I blog after the kids go to bed at night. So, I've been thinking about this for the past couple of months, and it just makes sense to publish these posts on Wednesday nights so that you can actually catch up with my family on Thursdays (and you get an extra day to link up your own posts as well)!

1. Gummy Vitamins
I hate swallowing vitamins and seem to conveniently forget to take them. Probably not the best way to take care of myself. Sean came home with gummy vitamins for me a couple of weeks ago to see if I like those more. They are WAY better and actually pretty tasty! I have such a thoughtful husband! :)

2. My Favorite Ice Cream
We've been sick again for the past week (Seriously. Ugh!).  My mom was so kind to bring us dinner on Monday night and even included a carton of my favorite ice cream for dessert. If you haven't had French Silk yet, it is a MUST try! So delicious! Thanks, Mom!

3. We're Sick. Round 3.
Three times in the past five weeks? *sigh* Yep, we are sick again. Other than just a handful of days, we've been sick since October 1st. This time of year is never very kind to our family. For this round, Ellie's asthma is acting up like crazy. It ended up turning into: an ear infection, bronchitis, and pneumonia. The photo above is of Ellie and I sitting in the doctor's office doing a breathing treatment because her wheezing was so bad. We are now the proud owners of our own nebulizer, fondly known as Mr. Penguin. He lives on our coffee table for the foreseeable future.

4. Elijah's Turn
I suppose I shouldn't complain since they are sharing, but I don't love that they share viruses. The wee hours of Monday morning found me and Eli on our way to the local Children's Hospital ER. Why do they wait until 1am to decide to scare Mommy and Daddy to death? His wheezing was horrible, Ellie's nebulizer wasn't cutting it, and he kind of sounded like he was drowning in his lungs. Turns out it was just croup. Good heavens! It was our first trip to the ER for the kids since they came home from the hospital (which is incredible!), but I do hope it is the last for a very long while! (Technically, we make an annual trip to the ER but usually it's for Sean. Looks like my boys are switching it up on me. For Sean's emergency room stories, click HERE and HERE.)

5. Roaming
With all of that going on over the weekend, why not add a little change in routine to the line up? We took down the gates that used to block off our kitchen. Then we used one of our Super PlayYards to block off our open pantry (excuse the mess), but other than that, the kids can now run in complete circles through our house. Yay???

I will say that it's kind of funny to watch them yank on our childproofed cabinets and yell, "It's stuck!" Yeah, kiddos. We did that on purpose. :)

Now it's your turn! What Little Things brightened up your week? Link up your post below (or leave a comment if you aren't a blogger) and make sure you come back next week to play again!

  1. So sorry to hear about the sickness at your house! But I must say, I did enjoy following the link and reading about how your friends skipped the movie to bring you dinner and a video when Sean burned his hand. That was so great of them! :) Hope you're all feeling better soon!

  2. French Silk from Eddy's is my FAVORITE! Just the right amount of chocolate without being overwhelming. I'm sorry you are all sick again and hope that it gets better soon. My biggest, little thing of this week is "friends." Several times this week I've asked multiple friends of mine to drop what they were doing and come help me with a task. Not one of them complained. I couldn't be more thankful.

  3. Sorry to hear the sickies have invaded. I remember when my son had croup when he was a toddler.. scared us to death when he was coughing and sounding like a barking seal; than gasping for breathe after the coughing stopped. That was our first ER trip too, and he had to have the breathing mask also. After that my husband would take him in the shower that had the hot water running for awhile to build up steam - or during winter sometimes out in the freezing cold for 2 mintues (for some odd reason it would work). Thankfully he hasn't had it occur again as he has gotten older.
My weakness is Half Baked by Ben & Jerry. They come as single serve you know? ;)
hope you are on the mend soon.
