The Little Things Thursdays: #58

Welcome to The Little Things Thursday!!

If you are new to our link-up, we like to take a minute to look back on the little things that brightened our week. So often we get busy and forget all of the things that we enjoy as we go through our daily lives. This is an opportunity to stop, remember, and enjoy those things! Nothing is too small...in fact, the smaller the better! That's the whole point! If you have a blog, link-up below. If you don't blog, I'd love for you to participate by leaving a comment. Ready?

With being laid up for the past week, I haven't been able to take as many photos as usual. I think I have one of Ellie zonked out on the couch, but that's it. I know you've come to expect lots of photos in these but...I wasn't expecting a broken leg. :) So we are just going to roll with it this week, and I'll see what I can do in terms of photos for next week, okay?

1. Everybody is Sick
True story! The first of the kiddos started coming down with a cold on Friday evening, and by Sunday, it had been shared among all of them. Yesterday, Sean and I decided to make it a family affair and get sick ourselves. So now all six of us have colds. Ugh!

Ellie definitely is the sickest though. She has horrible asthma that gets out of control when she comes down with something, so we ended up at Urgent Care with her on Sunday night. She's been getting albuterol treatments through the nebulizer on a four hour schedule around the clock since then. Poor little thing! She is such a trooper!

2. I Found the Floor...again.
Whenever my kiddos get sick, I flip into super high mommy alert. I think all mommies do that. It's what lets us hear when they are uncomfortable and upset even while we are asleep. Sweet Ellie was so very, very sick on Sunday, that we prepared for a long night of being up with her. In the wee hours of Monday morning, I got up to try to take care of her, and forgot that I had a broken leg. I bent over to plug in the diffuser, and my leg buckled (keep in mind that we got about 2 hours of sleep total that night). Yeah...I fell again. I felt like SUCH an idiot.

So while my leg had been feeling better, I completely undid all of the healing in a split second. Unfortunately, I felt it pop on the way down. Bummer, right? Thankfully, I was able to get a refill on my Percoset. I have a follow-up appointment on Friday, and I'm kind of afraid of what they will find. It hurts!

3. Sean's Turn!
But it gets crazier! My long-suffering husband had another heart episode on Tuesday morning. The stress of caring for a wife with a broken leg, being up several times a night with four sick kids, lack of sleep from keeping up with all of the duties that we normally share, and getting sick himself, triggered his vasovagal syncope. I found him passed out on the floor of the bathroom yesterday morning. It takes him about 36-48 hours to recover after an episode, so thankfully he is feeling a little better as I type this, but he was completely out of commission for awhile.

4. Turds
But the hardest part is definitely where the kids are concerned. They can tell that something is wrong, and they know that we are unable to be as hands on as usual. We are trying so hard to still be there for them, but we have some current limitations, and we know that they don't feel as stable as usual. They have been acting out like crazy, causing each other grief, and disobeying rules left and right. It's so frustrating to us because we believe in being consistent parents, but I can't just run up the stairs when I hear them throw the humidifier across their bedroom. We are going to have a lot of clean-up parenting to do in a couple of weeks. *sigh*

4. Supportive Friends and Family
But, how neat is this? Even with everything that has flattened us (literally!) over the last couple of weeks, we have found God's faithfulness to be undeniable. We have had meals sent from California, West Virginia, Illinois, and Texas in addition to friends who have brought meals locally. One of my blog readers sent cookies from New Zealand (Seriously. How fun is that?!) Other moms of multiples, ladies from church, and friends from different points in our lives have come to help us chase our kids. It's hard to be in a position of needing so much, but watching God provide the help over and over again is so amazing! And if you have been one of those helping hands or have prayed for us, thank you for letting God use you to bless us.

P.S. If you REALLY want photos, and haven't seen this post yet, make sure you jump over to read the second edition of "When Toddlers Attack." Lots of photos and laughs through that one!

  3. Goodness gracious, you guys are having a heck of a time! Wowzers! I really love that you can see God's hand in the midst of all the chaos. Brady has that same kind of asthma and we have a nebulizer at the ready when he is sick. It is so scary to see them struggle to breathe. I will send prayers for all of you to heal and recover soon. "Clean up parenting," oh boy, we've all had some of that to do :) Best wishes to you all. Oh and this wonderful Kansas weather doesn't help, does it!
