The Little Things Thursdays: #85

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for supporting our family and blog!

Welcome to The Little Things Thursday!!

If you are new to our link-up, we like to take a minute to look back on the little things that brightened our week. So often we get busy and forget all of the things that we enjoy as we go through our daily lives. This is an opportunity to stop, remember, and enjoy those things! Nothing is too small...in fact, the smaller the better! That's the whole point! If you have a blog, link-up below. If you don't blog, I'd love for you to participate by leaving a comment. Ready?

1. Birthday Cards
Abby and Ellie
One of the reasons I had our teachers and paras fill out our beginning of the year Teacher Questionnaires is so that we would know when their birthdays were coming up. My kids LOVE birthdays! This week, we had our first birthday to celebrate, and my kids talked about it non-stop all weekend long. Birthdays are exciting, but when Miss DeAnn is having a birthday...whoa! It's like a mini-Christmas! My girls worked SO hard on special handmade birthday cards to give to Miss DeAnn at school on Tuesday. They used crayons and stickers and when they finally got to give it to her, they were positively beaming! Miss DeAnn was pretty happy that "her girls" remembered her birthday as well. :)

It's important to me that our kids learn to think of others and do something special for them. We are starting early!

2. Homemade Fried Chicken
Earlier this summer, Sean's best friend taught me how to make his special homemade fried chicken. I finally worked up the courage to give it a try by myself...and I think it was a success! Sean said it was good, and I put a lot of stock in his opinion. The only downside? It took me three hours to fry two chickens and make mashed potatoes. That can't be right??? Because there is no way I can spend that kind of time on fried chicken on a regular basis. Too bad, because I liked it!

3. The Kids
Abby, Ellie, Elijah, and Caleb
I think they are cute...especially when they are eating their dinner like they are supposed to! :)

4. Ishum Family Dinner
For about 2 weeks every year, we get green chile from Hatch, New Mexico in the stores here. That's a BIG deal! Hatch is just a short distance from where I grew up, and I've eaten a lot of green chile from the farms in that town. In fact, we have good family friends who own one the Hatch Chile Farms. Down in New Mexico, they have chile roasters going in the late summer/early fall, but up here, they are really hard to find. Instead, I buy my chile, take it home and roast it in my oven, and then peel and freeze it in meal-sized portions. And my house smells fabulous!! :)
