The Little Things Thursdays: #100

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for supporting our family and blog!

Welcome to The Little Things Thursday!!

If you are new, we like to take a minute to look back on the little things that brightened our week. So often we get busy and forget all of the things that we enjoy as we go through our daily lives. This is an opportunity to stop, remember, and enjoy those things! Nothing is too small...in fact, the smaller the better! That's the whole point! If you have a blog, leave a link in a comment below! If you don't blog, I'd love for you to participate by leaving a moment in a comment anyway. Ready?

1. One Hundred!!
WHAT??? This is the 100th Little Things Thursday post. I feel like I've hit a milestone. That is a LOT of weekly updates with random photos of my kids. If you've been around since the first one, then you deserve a medal. :) Thanks for reading along with us!

2. A Long Weekend
Oh goodness. It has been a long few days! Sean and I are running on very little sleep right now and trying to keep up with life until (hopefully) we get a nap on Saturday afternoon. A good, long, nap.

Last week, our kids caught the virus crud that is going around. I think every single child in their entire school has it too. It's like walking into a tuberculosis ward in there. Ugh!

Most of our kids can handle a common cold, but Ellie struggles a lot. Ellie has asthma, so a common cold knocks her WAY down. While I'm used to doing nebulizer treatments when that happens, this weekend was so much worse. Let's just say that on Saturday, Sean and I were up all night watching her. At one point, we almost took her to the emergency room because I had tried every asthma strategy that we had been given. I finally looked at her and said, "Ellie, what else can I do? What can I do to help you breathe?"

And she said, "I *gasp* want *gasp* to watch *gasp* a show!"

Let me tell you, we've never turned My Little Pony on so fast in our lives. And sure enough, the distraction was enough to calm her back down enough to breathe a little easier. I've talked to the immunologist since then and he told us that we did everything exactly right....but MAN! They don't tell you about this type of thing when you are wanting to get pregnant!

We were squarely in the Yellow Zone of our Asthma Action Plan with her through yesterday. Taking her out in the cold only made her coughing worse, so our chiropractor OFFERED to make a house call to treat her. What?! Who does that kind of thing anymore?? Dr. Amy is a friend, so she saw what we were dealing with on FaceBook and offered to stop by on her way home from treating patients in the office so that we didn't have to force Ellie to breathe in the cold air. Adjustments make a huge difference when the kids are sick, so we very gratefully accepted her offer. She even adjusted all of the other kids while she was here as well. That is seriously going above and beyond in patient care! Wow!

And Ellie is back in Green now. YAY! (Mom and Dad are hoping to get out of the Yellow Zone for sleep soon too.)

3. Abby's Random Moment of the Day
Abby is our quirky kid. She always has been and probably always will be. I think it's endearing even if it is a little random. Like her interest in having me take photos of random objects. This week, the request was for a picture of her crackers. So there you go. Abby and her crackers. Lol!

4. Trooper
SUCH a trooper! After I took the photo of Abby, Ellie wanted one too. So here is a photo of Ellie and her crackers...which also happened to be the first thing that she ate in a couple of days. Up until that point, she had no appetite and anything she tried to eat made her cough. They may graduate from the NICU, but that doesn't mean that their preemie battles are over. Her little lungs struggle so much. I wish I could put her in a bubble sometimes.

5. Salsa in All the Wrong Places
Caleb was very surprised when a load of tomatoes plopped on his head. I wish I had a better photo of his face when Sean dropped the plate with salsa on it. The salsa kind of followed the same flight pattern that happens when birds poop on people. It was ALL over his head and on his shirt. Hehe! Yeah, I took photos instead of helping clean him up. I'm good like that. ;)

6. This Week's Favorite Book
Okay, maybe I have a couple of quirky kids. Elijah loves books, but he particularly latches on to books that aren't meant to be cherished long-term. For the longest time, his favorite "book" was my Young Living Essential Oils Product Guide Catalog. He paged through it countless times, looking at his oils. This week, he has shifted a little bit and is now thoroughly enjoying the Bissell Vacuum Cleaner User Manual. They just don't write them like this anymore. LOL!

  2. I don't know how I stumbled upon your blog, but I've come to look forward to your posts. I have three kids, so sometimes I can relate to your situations. Or sometimes they make me feel better and I realize that we all have some craziness!! Congratulations on your 100th!! I wanted to post to send my prayers for Ellie, I'm going to pray that as she grows, her asthma gets easier to control. It sounds terrifying for you all!!

  3. When Elijah becomes an engineer, you'll appreciate all the time he spent with manuals like one that came with the vacuum cleaner! :)

  4. Asthma is the worst. Can be so scary both for the person struggling to breathe and those caring for them! Glad to hear she's back in the green!
