Sean's Heart and His + Her, Q + A: #2

First, a little update on Sean's heart condition.

He had an appointment with a cardiologist this morning, and I went with him. It's always good to have two sets of ears hearing what medical professionals say. The cardiologist was hilarious, quite personable, and didn't rush us at awesome to find a specialist with such a great bedside manner! He said that it sounded like Vasovagal Syncope, which is what Sean has been dealing with since he was a kid. He did order a few tests though: an EKG, blood work, a coronary CAT scan, and he put Sean on a 30 day heart monitor. He doesn't think we will find anything, but wants to make sure it really is Vasovagal Syncope and not something else.

The good news is that Vasovagal Syncope in and of itself is not life-threatening. As the doctor put it, "It's just more of a nuisance than anything else." Since the frequency has increased, Sean will go back in 3 months for further evaluation (as long as the ordered tests come back fine). Meanwhile, the goal is to get horizontal as quickly as possible if he feels an episode coming on.

Thanks for praying for him and for us!

His&Her Q&A

We had a lot of fun filling out last week's list! We actually looked forward to answering today's questions all week long! Since we can't do it while the kids are awake (hard to hear anything), we knew it would be a few quiet minutes for us to connect.

How would a classmate have described you in high school?
His: Nerdy
Her: Bossy Older Sister (I was homeschooled)

What was a toy from childhood you never had but coveted?
His: Fortress Maximus
Her: Gosh, I can't think of anything. I was a total bookworm, so I'd have to say all of the books in the bookstore that I didn't own.

What is your biggest flaw?
His: My arrogance. My second biggest flaw, literally, would be being sixty pounds overweight.
Her: I'm a perfectionist, and not in a good way. The kids are helping me learn to give some of that up.

What do you do on your bad days to make you happy?
His: Listen to music or recite lines in my head from the original Tranformers the Movie, Made, Swingers, or Fight Club. Oh, wait. I guess I do that everyday, don't I? I guess on my bad days I do it even more.
Her: Eat Taco Bell and chocolate in mass quantities. Food seems to be my way of comforting myself.

What does your other half do for you on your bad days to make you happy?
His: Let's me take a time out so that I can reset myself. And sometimes, I just need a nap.
Her: He offers to pick up dinner so that I don't have to cook, tells me to go somewhere (anywhere) for a bit to take a break from the kids, or gives me a foot massage.

When you go to an event/party/potluck, what food do you hope is there?
His: Can I say Thanksgiving dinner? Turkey, Sweet Potatoes, and Stuffing. And a side of Pickled Beets.
Her: Chocolate Chip Cookies! (yet another food vice...*sigh*)

What are your favorite smartphone apps?
His: Man, I don't know. They're all so good! Facebook, Ebay, and IMDB (Internet Movie Database). Oh! And my library app! I love my library app!
Her: Currently, it's Facebook, Email, and Jingit.

What is something that always embarrasses you?
His: You know that thing that happens when someone says something that catches me off guard and I don't have a rebuttal? Yeah...
Her: Umm...when I say something that has a double meaning that I'm not aware of. I grew up pretty sheltered, so this happens to me fairly often.

What is some of the best advice your parents have given you?
His: I can't think of one piece of advice, but without the love, support, and values that they placed in me, I would not be the man I am today. So there must have been some good advice in there somewhere. I guess what I'm trying to say is, they may not have given me advice with words, but they gave me advice with their actions.
Her: The first piece of advice that comes to mind came from my mom, "Guys like it when women shave their legs." I don't know that I would consider it the *best* piece of advice, although it is a good one! Probably their best piece of advice was that I needed to marry a Christian guy who would put God first before me and our kids. I managed to find one of those elusive guys, and my parents were 100% right that that was the type of guy to look for.

Who is your celebrity man crush?
His: Vince Vaughn
Her: I honestly don't have one. I can't separate a celebrity from the way he carries himself in his personal life, so I'm pretty unimpressed with my choices overall. I'll stick with my hubby. :-)

Pick a question and leave a comment with your own answer below! It's always fun to get to know our readers better too!

  1. Lol!!! I don't EVER remember me telling you that! Surely you can think of something else I told you. That is hilarious!

    1. Of course I can remember other things! I just find that one funny! :)

  2. His best advice from his mom: If you don't have it, don't spend it. More should come in than goes out.

My best advice from my mom: Parents' marriage first, kids second and there's no need to apologize for it.

    Potluck favorites:
His: Something I have never eaten before (the man LOVES trying new foods)
Mine: Anything that involves potatoes and cheese . . .

    1. Fun, fun! I'm glad you guys are enjoying the questions too!

  3. I remember when I used to call you 'bossy older sister' (in Josh, Mark, and my opinions). :P
You were (and are) darn good at making cookies though. :)

  4. I'll continue to keep you and your family in my prayers. HUGS!
