Sean was randomly checking his FaceBook events last week and noticed that
Shatto Dairy Farm was having their free Annual Family Day. We didn't even know they
had an Annual Family Day, but "Visit a Farm" was on our
Summer Bucket List, and we really like Shatto milk, so we decided to go!
First, we loaded the kids up and took them on their longest car ride to date: 1 hour and 15 minutes. We listened to a lot of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on the way there and a lot of VeggieTales Greatest Hits on the way back. They did really well! Whew!
After talking to a friend, we decided that two double strollers were the way to go. I'm glad we left the wagon at home! There were too many people and the farm terrain was too rough for it to have worked. Strollers were perfect though!
When we got there, we headed for the free hot dog tent first. The kids were hungry, and we appreciated the thoughtfulness of the farm to provide a lunch for their guests!
It's really hard to get a family photo where you can see everyone's face!
Lunch time!
Clockwise: Daddy and Elijah, Abby, Ellie, and Caleb
In addition to the temporary hot dog and vendors' tents, they have a general store where they sell fresh cheese, milk, and ice cream. We were anxious to try their new Caramel Sea Salt Ice Cream, but decided to wait. With over an hour drive back home, we didn't want to risk it melting in the car. That would have been tragic.
Shatto Milk Truck
After our hot dogs, we headed over to see the cows.
Shatto Dairy Farm sells their milk in glass bottles, so we wanted to see where the milk came from. It was so hot that we didn't make it all the way to the milking barn, but we did get to see the little calves. Ellie even had the chance to touch one!
On our way back to the car, we ran into our friends, The Lights. Kristina is a good friend of mine, and if you've been reading our blog for any length of time, you will remember that they have been kind enough to
invite us over for play dates several times.
And no, we didn't coordinate the yellow and white. It just happened. :)

You had me at "they sell fresh cheese."
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a good time.
We had a great time! We will definitely be going back in coming years!
DeleteLooks like the kids had a lot of fun. I've never been to a farm and would so love to go to one. The closest we've got is the petting zoo. :)
ReplyDeleteNever been to a farm? Wow, you should definitely add it to your own bucket list! :)
