The Blessings Jar: A Story about Being Thankful - Giveaway

When I received the July resource list from Tommy Nelson, I saw two books that I thought looked great! So this month, I'm going to giveaway both books since I just couldn't narrow it down to one choice. The first book giveaway is today, and you can look for the second one at the end of the month.

The Blessings Jar: A Story About Being Thankful is about a little girl named, Punky, who is having an icky awful day. She wakes up in the morning with a case of the grumpies that threaten to make her entire day miserable. Her Grammy suggests that she take a jar and fill it with things that remind her of God's blessings during the day. The rest of the book is the story of her adventures that day and the items she collects as she goes. At the end of the book, she realizes that her grumpies disappeared as she refocused on all of the good things that God has given her.

Plus, she has a dog named Jake that my kids absolutely love to point out on each page!

The book retails for $12.99 and can be found on Thomas Nelson and Amazon. You can flip through the book HERE and also go HERE to print off some free coloring pages!

  1. Right now we are still working on the basics of saying thank you...haven't gotten to the heart issue of it yet. :)

  11. Mine are only about a year older than yours so it is hard enough to get them to say thank you. I paid the admission of another little kid who did not have enough money to get into the local public pool (she was in line in front of us and had no adult with her) and one of mine asked why I did that.

  12. One of the things I try to do is let our boys know that there are other kids in the world who don't have as much as they do. With school supplies being on sale right now, we are picking some up for the shoeboxes we fill up at Christmas time for less fortunate children. Now that my boys are turning four, I am hoping to do even more of these kinds of things, like having them donate toys to toy drives and choose a gift out of a catalog we get for children in third world countries (seeds, livestock, etc.) But honestly, hearing them say a simple "thank you" without being prompted is pretty awesome! ;)

  13. I teach mine to be thankful by Praying, working hard and loving them at the same time. We show thanks by helping others in the community and helping others at church. We also bake cookies for the elderly and hand them out at Christmas.

  14. We just started an new thing and it seems to be working pretty good so far, if our daughter whines or complains about something she must stop and tell us 3 things she is thankful for.

  15. I don't have them yet, but when I nanny or with my siblings/nephews I try to "talk up" the person making dinner or doing the cleaning or whatever. "wow. Mama made REALLY yummy cupckaes! You should tell her thank you and what a great job she did!" Actually funny story, at a recent family BBQ I said that exact thing to my nephew and brother (both 3) and when my sister came out my nephew sticks his little thumb out and says "GREAT JOB on the cupcakes, Mama!! GREAT JOB!" ;-)

  22. Right now my 1 year old is too little to understand being thankful, but we model saying please and thank you to each other and her. We also say please to her when she wants something, and thank you once she gets it.. It's little, but I want her to appreciate others and be polite. As she gets older well get more into it.

  26. We talk about all the personal possessions we have such as a warm home in the winter, AC home in the summer. Food that is put on the table, a roof over our heads and their own playroom. I remind them when they start bickering at each other to remember the children in Kenya, etc. that do not have the such luxuries that some of the US kids may take for granted... It quiets them down and they settle their differences very quickly! We often read "Have you Filled a Bucket Today?" that explains being kind, showing appreciation, and love. It's also an amazing book and I highly recommend reading it! In their prayers at night, the kids thank God for everyone they know.... sometimes the list gets long. :)
