The Canceled Birthday and The Pizza Rescue

This delicious post is sponsored by Papa Murphy's and MomSelect, but all opinions and tips are 100% my own. Thanks for supporting us, our blog, and Abby's pizza eating habit!

Over the weekend, we had planned a fun little family party like we did for the kids' 1st and 2nd birthdays.

But then all of our guests got sick, so we had to cancel the party.

I guess it really wasn't THAT many people since we just invited our immediate families, but we canceled it after we had loaded the kids in the car, told them what we were doing, and were already in route to my parents' house.

So we ended up having a bit of an impromptu day that actually turned out to be quite a bit of fun!

First, we took the kids to Costco. We needed a few items, and I didn't have the heart to turn the car around and not take them anywhere. Ellie thought it was a fabulous adventure! The other three were kind of indifferent about it...until we hit the samples. Life got significantly more exciting at that point!
With that out of the way, we were faced with another issue. We had already told the kids that they could have pizza for lunch. And you do NOT tell Abby she can have pizza and then not follow through. This girl is so serious about her pizza.

The week prior, Papa Murphy's asked if I would review their new pan pizza, so we figured Saturday was the perfect time to do so. Honestly, we eat Papa Murphy's so often that I could have written a review without trying the new pizza, but hey! You don't have to twist my arm!

We called my brother, Mike, and his family and Pa (Sean's Dad) since they were pretty much the only well people left out of the original family party. They all agreed to come eat some pizza with us and have a sort of half birthday party to tide us over until we can reschedule the family event.
The kids entertained themselves with some special birthday gifts that our families brought while we popped the pizzas in the oven.
Oh...side note! Papa Murphy's is a Take and Bake place. I think that is one of the reasons we like it so much. They make the pizza fresh in shop and assemble it while you watch, then you take it home and cook it when you want it. It arrives at the table still hot. Soooo good!

Anyhow, I kinda went overboard and bought cheesy bread, and original pepperoni (regular crust),

Hawaiian delight (thin crust),

and then the New Fresh Pan Pizza. I went with the Murphy's Combo!
Happily, the pan pizza proved as delicious as all of the rest of the pizza we've eaten from Papa Murphy's. It cooked up perfectly and the toppings were fresh.

Let me share a couple of tips with you from the myriad of times we've picked up pizza:

  • You can call ahead, and they will have it ready when you get there!
  • The large size Original Cheese, and Original Pepperoni pizza are only $6 all of the time.
  • You can use one coupon per item. In other words, if you order two pizzas and a side, you can use 3 coupons on the same order! (LOVE this about them!)
  • The pizzas all come with a little survey on the baking instructions. Fill that out online to get the code for either a free side/dessert or $$ off your pizza.
  • The Smores Pizza is where it's at. Trust me on this. Sean's dad brought one over a couple of years ago, and I'm practically addicted to them. Promise me you'll try them?
Using coupons, our family can get one large specialty pizza, one large original pizza, and dessert (my Smores pizza, of course!) for about $15. I almost can't cook dinner for that cheap! Now you know why Papa Murphy's is a favorite at our house!

And then they had to go and add a Pan Pizza to the menu. I should probably regret that there is a Papa Murphy's on Sean's way home from work.....nah!
So that day was redeemed even though we had to cancel their party. Costco, a few family members, and pizza made the day right! Thankfully the kids took an awesome nap that afternoon, which made it the perfect day for Mommy and Daddy too!
