Update on Ellie's Heart

Well folks unless things dramatically change over this weekend, Elizabeth will be having heart surgery on Tuesday morning.   She had an echo done on her this afternoon and her PDA is still open.  She is receiving a third round of the medicine but the doctors do not think it will help.   This is stressing me out.  We talked to the doctor tonight about what goes on in the surgery, mortality rates, side effects, pain levels… and everything points out that after this surgery, Elizabeth will actually be much better in terms of her breathing, which once the breathing gets under control, everything else tends to follow suit.  We have talked to other NICU parents and they say the surgery is quick and it is nothing to worry about but it is just so hard to hear that our baby girl has to endure this.   I think I might be gray in a few years and I’m going to attribute most of those hairs to Elizabeth  J

The  other three kids (lest we forget) are doing well.   Elijah is still rocking his CPAP and looks relaxed as always.   It has now been a week since Caleb opened his left eye and he likes to look at us whenever we come in.   We actually think Caleb looks a lot like me (especially with the sleepy eyed look) and Elizabeth looks like Becca.   Abigail is currently weighing in at 2 lb 14 oz.  We just need Abby to quit riding the vent but honestly all of the kids including Elizabeth are doing what they are supposed to.  Four kids,  I have four kids.   Four wonderous gifts from God.   I am so jealous of the time I get to spend with them.  I want it to never end.

  6. Just wait until their first day of school, the day they get their driver's permits, and when they graduate from high school... the day's of grey hair and a loving concern for every little thing that happens (or COULD happen) to them have only just begun. You will do great though, and so will they. You two are super great parents- we know that already becuse of how well you're doing it already! And they will thrive in your love. :-)

  7. Praying for everyone.

    To you, O God, belong the greatness and the might,
    the glory, the victory, the majesty, the splendor;
    Yes! Everything in heaven, everything on earth;
    the kingdom all yours! You've raised yourself high over
    all.
    Riches and glory come from you,
    you're ruler over all;
    You hold strength and power in the palm of your hand
    to build up and strengthen all.
    And here we are, O God, our God, giving thanks to you,
    praising your splendid Name.

  8. praying for sweet little Ellie...on this YOUR birthday... so thankful for those that are treating and caring for your babies... You're an awesome dad ... enjoy every moment that you can with them ... sounds like Abby is "chubbying" out on her sibs!! so fun to read tidbits on each of them ... I think Caleb is winking at his momma and already getting each of you wrapped around his little finger... and Eli... well still on "in flight" mode is terrific (CPAP)..

  9. I will continue praying for you all, especially little Ellie. After my kids had their PDA surgeries, it was amazing how much better they did. I remember the first thing I noticed about each one of them right after surgery was how pink they were since they were finally getting an adequate amount of oxygen. It is hard to watch your baby go through surgery, but it will be worth it when she starts improving by leaps and bounds after it's over! Good luck!
