Mom to Mom Diapers: A Great Diaper Option from Safeway!

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Mom to Mom.

Tracking Pixel
I thought we had tried them all. I really had.

With four kids in diapers, I couldn't think of any brands we hadn't tried....but guess what?? I found another one, and wanted to share it with you!

Safeway has a great diaper brand called, Mom to Mom.
I think it's pretty appropriately named! Really, who knows diapers better than a mom?

I was thrilled to get my hands on a package to run through our strict quality control testing process. In other words, I lined our quadruplets up, and changed each of them into a size 4 Mom to Mom diaper.
And then the testing began.

Have you ever been in a house with four 3-year-olds? Yeah, it's chaos. My kids rarely sit down, so my number one diaper need is no leaks. I need a diaper that keeps poop in and the sandbox out. I need a diaper that fits my kids well, and absorbs everything it comes in contact with. I need a diaper that doesn't create more laundry for me. Please, no more laundry.

So we did a little experiment. I thought it would be fun to do one of those absorbency tests in our own personal lab (a.k.a. our preschool table). Just how much liquid will these diapers hold?

And, of course, I had my four assistants help me with our experiment.
From left: Ellie, Elijah, Abby, and Caleb

The average three-year-old's bladder can hold 5 oz/150 ml, so that was the absorbency that I was hoping for even though people tend to void way before they reach full capacity. But still, assuming one of my kids *did* try to meet full capacity, I wanted to know that these diapers could handle it.

(If you are wondering, I totally researched how much urine a three-year-old can hold. Hey, you can't argue the scientific facts, right?)

I filled a small measuring cup with water and green food coloring, which I kept firmly in my control. I then poured 1 oz of tinted water at a time into a medicine cup, and let the kids take turns pouring it onto the diaper. They loved helping me with this!

Happily, the diaper easily held 5 oz/150 ml!
No water pooling on top of the diaper at 5 oz!

For kicks, I kept pouring. At 7 oz, the diaper was very full and heavy, and at 8 oz, every bit of it was saturated. Then I just let it sit there for awhile to see if it would leak through to the other side with that much water in it. Not a leak in sight! Even though it was very full and heavy at 8 oz, I was still impressed that it could hold that much water.

Of course, dumping food-coloring tinted water in a diaper isn't as accurate as putting the diaper on a preschooler's rump. So when we were finished with our experiment, had eaten dinner, cleaned up the living room twice, and watched our new VeggieTales movie, I checked our four test subjects for leakage and absorbency.

Our experiment was a success! Everyone still had on dry pants, and no one had created more laundry for me to do. In true scientific form, two of my kids even went #2 for testing purposes. It (very, very thankfully!) held that without any problems as well!

In all seriousness though, I like having the Safeway Mom to Mom brand diapers as an option. They are more affordable than other brands, have great leak protection, and as a bonus, the diaper liners are hypoallergenic with vitamin E and aloe.

Plus, my kids think it's really cool to dump water on a diaper and watch it soak right up!

Have you heard of or tried Safeway's Mom to Mom brand diapers? Let me know your experience in the comments!

All I Want for Christmas are Dry Bums - Pampers Diapers Giveaway!

Is it just me, or do you also find yourself running out of important things on holidays when it's next to impossible to get more? Man, I could tell you stories about the stuff that I've forgotten. Most of the time it's an item or ingredient related to a holiday dinner, so it can be worked around for the most part. But one consistent fear is running out of something that is absolutely, positively necessary.....like diapers.

Eventually, our quadruplets will be potty trained, and then it will just be a matter of keeping up with the laundry, but for now, diapers are a vital part of our lives.

For illustration purposes, I asked my kiddos to show me how they would feel if we ran out of diapers:
*laugh* It looks like they hate poopy diapers as much as I do! (Also, this is a rare photo of my boys in matching clothes! Can you tell who is who?)

I've written a couple of times in the past (here and here) about how much we like Pampers diapers. Now with their new and improved baby dry diapers, I don't have to worry about the kids leaking in the middle of Christmas dinner. Pampers has added an extra layer of absorbency, making them 15% more absorbent than other brands.
That extra absorbancy is enough to buy me time to run to CVS if we find ourselves short on diapers this holiday season. I guess it probably shouldn't be a surprise that I know where all of the nearby CVS's are in relation to our house. And they happen to carry the new version of Pampers in all of their stores!

And now it's time for illustration two: What my kids look like with happy bums in dry diapers! No tears! Thank goodness!
I've thoroughly planned ahead for Christmas next week, I think, but just in case, I know that I have CVS in my back pocket in a pinch.

Pampers Baby Dry Diapers Giveaway!

“This review was made possible by Double Duty Divas and Pampers. I was provided the featured product free of charge to facilitate my review, but all opinions are 100% mine."
how to get free diapers
The kids stayed up a little late last night since we were out showing the grandparents their Halloween costumes. (Stay tuned for those photos! The kids were so cute!) Because of our late bedtime, I knew they would be sleeping in this morning, so I thought it would be a good time to try some new diapers.

Pampers just revamped their Baby Dry line making them 15% more absorbent with three layers of absorbency rather than two layers like regular diapers. As a mom, my number one requirement for diapers is that my kids don't wake up in the morning with leaks. I have enough to do without washing PJs and sheets every single day. And laundry is my least favorite chore, so I really try to avoid it if I can.
free Pampers diapers
My kids normally wear size 5 diapers to bed, which is a size larger than they wear during the day. I do that so that they get the extra absorbency overnight. But the package of Pampers Baby Dry Diapers that came in the mail was size 4. I decided to let them try them overnight anyway, and happily, the kids were still dry this morning! There are always more diapers per package in the smaller sizes, so saving money and not having to do more laundry? Yes!

The other thing that I get to deal with as a mom is the Daylight Savings sleep transition. Uh...can we do away with it already, please?!Over half of moms feel that their kids' sleep patterns are disrupted when Daylight Savings ends. I understand why they put it in place originally, but now it's just unnecessarily mean to do to parents of little kids.

With Daylight Savings coming on Sunday, I'm trying to make this as easy as possible on our family. I've been doing some reading on tips to make the transition easier, and found a few good ideas from Kim West who is a sleep expert:
  • Slowly adjust bedtime and naptimes an hour earlier, by moving both back by 15 minutes per day instead of all at once.
  • Use a sound machine and blackout curtains in their room.
  • Keep the bedtime/naptime routine the same as before.
This lady actually has a whole slew of tips, and will be hosting a Twitter party on November 7th, 9pm EST. If you'd like to join them for that chat, just head over to RSVP. There will be several gift cards (including an AMEX card for $500!), Pampers products, and books by Kim West that will be given out to attendees.

Between the new and improved Pampers Baby Dry Diapers and the sleep tips, we should be in good shape!

Parent's Choice Overnight Diapers...Convenient and Affordable!

I'm so pleased to have been given this sponsored post opportunity with Parent’s Choice Overnight Baby Diapers.

Did you know that the average family of quadruplets go through 30,000 diapers before they are potty trained? I know. Crazy, right?

With those kind of numbers, we obviously try to save on diapers as much as possible. Every few months, I price diapers on different websites to make sure we are getting the best deal. We've learned to be pretty flexible during the day time since they are changed every few hours.

Nighttime is a different story. We routinely pay extra for diapers that are more absorbent.  Sleep is a commodity over here, so we really try to keep disruptions to our kids' sleep schedule to a minimum. They simply have better days, when they have had solid sleep the night before (so does Mommy!). Having them wake up because they are soaked through is something that can be avoided, so we do our best not to go there. Not to mention that having a family of six generates enough laundry already. I don't have time to wash extra pajamas, sheets, and mattress pads just because our diapers didn't work!

Recently, I was given the opportunity to try Parent's Choice Overnight Baby Diapers from Walmart. I really thought that we had tried just about every brand and type of diaper on the market, but this is one that I didn't even know existed! Walmart has overnight diapers? I'm intrigued!

They sent me a package of Parent's Choice Overnight Size 4 Diapers which I promptly put on four little rumps. I'll say this for having quads, they certainly make for a nice test market!
I was very pleasantly surprised with how absorbent the diapers were! Even my boys who have a hard time not leaking stayed perfectly dry. Considering that I've been paying higher prices for name brand overnight diapers up to this point, I'm very thankful to have found not only an affordable option, but also a convenient one! I do most of my grocery shopping at Walmart, so it will be easy to pick up a package of diapers while I'm there.

"Night time protection for babies is an important consideration for parents as their little one grows. Ordinary diapers may not have enough absorbent capacity to handle multiple voids over long periods of time with older babies. When wet mornings become the norm, parents start looking for more protection to guard against overnight leaks.

Parent’s Choice Overnight Baby Diapers are super absorbent for overnight and long-trip protection. This is an overnight diaper at prices that everyone can afford!"

The Diaper Stockpile for Our Toddlers

Walgreens Diaper Sale Coupons

I just had to take a photo of our last diaper haul. Someday, I'm going to be telling my grandkids about how many diapers we used to go through, and they aren't going to believe me. And then I can produce these photos as proof!

Behold, three months of diapers for quadruplets:

Mommy Tip: How To Diaper Quadruplets (or several kids at once!)

Did you know that the average family with quadruplets goes through about 30,000 diapers before their kids are potty trained? How's that for a fun factoid?

We did some research on both cloth diapering and disposable diapering before the kids arrived and decided that under the circumstances, disposables were the way to go for our family. However, because of the insane number of diapers that are needed, it's imperative that we find the most inexpensive way to go about it.
Pin this Tip!
I thought it might be interesting to show you how we buy daytime diapers for our kids. And since the sale we always stock up on starts today, it seemed like an appropriate time to let you know about that too if you are still in the diapering stage at your house.

Starting today, Walgreens has an awesome diaper deal on their store brand diapers! This sale comes around about once every three months, and is how we keep on top of the diaper situation at our house. We have had great luck with using Walgreens store brand diapers as their daytime diapers. No leaks, no allergic reactions. Just cheap diapers! After checking prices on diapers.com, Amazon, Amazon Mom, etc. we've found that this is the easiest, cheapest way to keep our kids tushies clean.
Here is how it works for our family when we are ready to make a big diaper purchase:

The Jumbo Packs of Walgreens Store Brand diapers are usually $8.79 per package. Starting today, they are buy-one-get-one-free. That comes out to $4.40 per package.

Depending on the size you are buying, this is what you will pay per diaper:
Size 1 is $0.09 cents per diaper
Size 2 is $0.11 cents per diaper
Size 3 is $0.12 cents per diaper
Size 4 is $0.14 cents per diaper
Size 5 is $0.16 cents per diaper
Size 6 is $0.19 cents per diaper

In my experience, those are pretty great prices!

So as we are figuring how many diapers to buy for a three month cycle, we have to do a little math. Right now, all four kids still fit in size 3 daytime diapers. (They wear the bigger sizes of name brand diapers at night.)

Our quads go through:
  • 20 daytime diapers per day
  • 600 daytime diapers per month
  • There are 36 diapers in each Size 3 Jumbo Package.
  • We will use 17 packages of Size 3 Jumbo Packages per month.
  • That works out to 51 packages of Size 3 Jumbo Packages per three month cycle.
  • It's buy-one-get-one free so I actually need to order 52 packages (gotta get my free one!)
That is a total of $234 to buy 1872 daytime diapers that should last our quadruplets three months. Not terrible all things considered, and I only have to think about it once every quarter! Now granted, this doesn't include tax, nighttime diapers which are more expensive, or wipes, but this is about as hassle free and cheap as we can get them.

One of my multiple friends asked if I buy these online or go into the store. I always go into the store. I've worked really hard to build a good relationship with the store manager and staff at our local Walgreens. They now know me as "that lady with quadruplets." In fact, the photo department has a picture of our kids posted on their bookshelf! Lol! Anyhow, they know me and my situation and try very hard to accommodate my large orders, even going so far as to load my car for me! They've also gotten to the point where they let me call the order in and pay for it when I pick it up in store. (As the assistant manager told the new store manager last year, "Don't worry. This lady always comes in for her diapers.")

But the main reason I go in is because sometimes they are able to find an extra coupon for me if I ask while checking out. While there isn't always an extra coupon, it's certainly worth being a polite, patient customer. Gratitude goes a long way in all aspects of life!

So if you need diapers, this is a great opportunity to stock up! Now if you will excuse me, the store manager is probably expecting my call any minute...

Oh, and if you liked this post, you might enjoy this photo of how much formula our kids used to eat in a month!

Pants on the Ground - Part 2

Ah...the joys of motherhood.

In case you haven't had enough of my diaperless children, I thought I'd write another installment of Pants on the Ground. If you missed the first post about it, you can catch up with Elijah's antics HERE.

Last week, I walked into the kids' room to get them up from their morning rest time. They rarely sleep in the morning, but I've found that their morning rest time does wonders for their happiness level and Mommy's sanity.

This particular morning, I walked in to find this happy little girl perched between her diaper and a huge pile of poop:
The little bugger had pooped in her diaper, then took it off, then pulled salad-plate-sized turd out, then played with it, and then calmly waited for me to come find it.

Her sweet little antics resulted in a head to toe bath, complete bedding change, the entire crib wiped down with Clorox wipes, and a giant load of laundry washed on the hottest cycle available.

Gross!

And since my kids love to do things as a group, Caleb wasn't too far behind (haha!) with his own craziness.

Over the weekend, Sean and I went in to get the kids up. I was looking at Ellie when we walked in because she was dancing around and giggling, and then all the sudden I heard Sean yelp. I always tell him about what kind of trouble the kids get into, so he knew bare butts were an occasional find, but I don't think he was ready to be accosted with this:
Caleb likes to sleep with the blanket over his head (so weird), but this day he had first removed his pants and diaper. We found them flung on the other side of the room. Apparently, this kid has an arm! The thing that made Sean yelp though, was the position he fell asleep in. He was angled to the door such that...eh, let's just say that nothing was left to the imagination.

With those episodes as inspiration, I've developed a new line of fashion accessories for my semi-nudists toddlers.
Behold, the Duct Tape Belts!
In less than thirty seconds, my kids can now take a nap, wake up fully clothed, and still be trendy. That's right, it's all about staying current and clean.

It's a really, REALLY good thing these kids are cute. And it's a really, REALLY good thing that "duct tape fixes everything"...at least until they figure out how to take that off!

(And no, I don't draw belts on their duct tape everyday. I just thought it would be a nice touch for the blog!)

Note: I want to explain a couple of precautions that I take with their duct tape belts. The duct tape is only wrapped around the front of the diaper to cover the tabs. It doesn't wrap all the way around the back of the diaper. I'm also very, very careful that the tape only touches the diaper and doesn't snag any of their skin. Kids have very sensitive skin, so if you choose to help your kids keep their diapers on this way, please be cautious that you don't put the tape directly on any skin. Thanks!

Pants on the Ground

We have a serious "pants on the ground" issue going on over here.

Why is it that my kids love stripping off their pants and diapers to feel the December air flow past their bums?! It's incredibly funny and so irritating at the same time!

My Eli, bless his sweet heart, enjoys reaching into his pants and pulling off one of the diaper tabs. He then runs around the living room with the diaper tab flapping in the breeze. He's been doing this for a few weeks, but we normally just refasten it and send him on his way. Not a huge deal because he normally leaves his pants on.

Until a few days ago...

It started like any other day. We got up in the morning, I changed the kids from their PJs into their day clothes, and headed into the kitchen to fix breakfast. That's when I saw the two shirtless wonders whizzing past the gate.
Elijah and Caleb
That's the first time they've both managed to get their shirts off at the same time, and they were thoroughly enjoying it! So many giggles and laughs, I had to take a picture. I put their shirts back on, but they were quickly removed again after breakfast.

Oh well. I turned the heat up a degree. Boys will be boys, right?

I returned to cleaning up breakfast, and the next thing I saw was this:

And then he immediately moved to the couch where he ran back and forth:

And then back to the floor to run around in circles:

And then he went back to running on the couch again and then back to the floor while laughing and squealing the entire time.

This boy was having the time of his life! He wasn't wasting anytime getting in as much movement as he possibly could until Mommy decided to be a party pooper and force him back into a diaper and pants.

Meanwhile, this is what was going on around the corner:
My laundry and tub of kids socks were all over the dining room. I'm still missing some socks...

I was so thankful and exhausted when morning nap time finally arrived. I felt like all I did was chase naked children and pick up laundry all morning. Of course, then I heard a holler from the bedroom and went up to find Elijah stark naked again and having peed all over this crib.

Can you imagine trying to explain these antics in full detail for someone not there to see them? I did show Sean the photos when he got home, but I don't think it made a total impact until Elijah decided to demonstrate his new skill for Daddy after dinner. Only this time he pooped, then took off his diaper, and then started flicking what should have most definitely remained in the diaper around the room. Good heavens!

And he isn't the only one stripping (I can't get Ellie to leave her pants at all, and she's been caught diaper-less in her crib a couple of times), but he is certainly the one who feels the most freedom when he comes to embracing his birthday suit.

I can't be the only mother whose kids have decided that this is a fun pastime. Do you have any crazy stories like this??

Olympic Dreams

Like a true Olympic athlete, Elijah ran....no...toddled as fast as his little legs would carry him, around in circles in the living room.

From the viewing gallery, better known as the kitchen table, we saw Elijah's laps. Apparently, the dinner that the kids finished before we were able to finish our own was enough fuel to carry him on several celebratory victory laps.

Above his head, he was waving around a soft white item. It reminded me of how a gold medalist lifts his first place bouquet of roses in an acknowledgement of his adoring fans.

Sean stopped mid-bite, and broke the silence of the viewing gallery.

"Elijah...is that...a diaper??"

Triumphantly, Elijah brought his treasure over to Daddy to show him what he found.

"Is this...a dirty diaper??"

At that point, I couldn't refrain from adding some commentary myself.

"Did you throw away all four diapers after the last diaper round?"

"I thought I did."

Suddenly, Sean saw the big picture. There must be another player in the game. Instead of a quick head count, he did a butt count. Elijah was dressed, Caleb was dressed, Ellie was wearing a dress that snapped closed to cover her rump...but Abby? She was wearing a loose dress with no diaper cover.

"Abby?"

I took another bite of my food. I never get to eat a full meal in one sitting.

"Abigail?" He turned to me, "I can't tell if she's wearing a diaper."

We watched as Abby danced around in circles, clearly enjoying her after dinner freedom.

"Hey Abby, do you feel breezy?"

Sean took a bite of his food. We were so close to finishing our dinner, the dinner that was cold at this point because we had already offered extra food to the babies, cleaned them up from dinner when they got restless, and pulled them out of mischief once.

"Babe, just finish eating. We will go check her in a minute."

I worried that if we left the table again, we'd never finish dinner. With the soggy diaper sitting on the kitchen table next to us, we swallowed the last few bites of food, and Sean jumped up to go investigate the situation.

"Yep."

"Yep?"

"Yep. She's not wearing anything under her dress."

Laughing, I headed into the living room. I can handle Elijah's track running, but I wasn't aware there was a stripping event in the Olympics!

Sean was standing in the living room.

"She peed on my pillow."

"What?"

"I think that wet spot right there is pee on my pillow. Abby, why did you pee on the pillow that Daddy sits on when we are playing on the floor?"

Smiling, Abby continued dancing around the living room. I took a picture of her being goofy and then grabbed for a diaper before any other puddles appeared.

Maybe we should redirect her to a new Olympic dream.

I used to wonder if I'd get all out of shape over these types of things. Instead, I just find them funny!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go rotate a special load of wash from the washer to the dryer so that Daddy has something to sit on tomorrow.

Will She Really Eat When She is Hungry?

Abby is pretty proud of herself this week.

She managed...believe it or not...to actually eat enough food to graduate to size 3 diapers!

Barely.

Mostly she just graduated because we used the last of the size 2's. But hey! We will take what we can get!

Abby with her new diapers!
(My laptop is at the doctor's right now, so I don't have a place to download my photos. I have to stick with phone photos for illustrations. Hence why it is blurry.)

I seriously don't know what I'm going to do with this kid. This is about all she will eat, and we've come pretty far to be able to list all of this:

-Yogurt
-Bananas
-Crackers
-Dry Cereal
-Bread
-Peanut Butter Sandwiches
-Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
-Cold Beans out of a Can (sometimes)

And that's just about it. It's really frustrating to sit through mealtime with her because she will just sit and stare at her tray of food or watch her siblings eat. It doesn't matter how hungry she is or how long she sits there, if she doesn't like the way something looks, she won't eat it. I'm always torn between giving her something I'm sure she will eat so that she gets the calories, or making her sit it out since I don't want to start the habit of being a short order cook.

Because calories have always been such a huge deal with her, I tend to be a bit more lenient than I want to be in the food department. Can my child end up being malnourished if she subsists almost entirely on graham crackers and Chex cereal?

My mom likes to remind me that from 18 months to 3 years of age, I would only eat yogurt and hot dogs. Literally, nothing else. I now have a pleasantly balanced diet and enjoy lots of different foods (except calamari. If I don't say that here, I'm sure my husband will leave a comment telling all about my aversion. Eww!)

She may not like or eat something, but I always offer it to her anyway. I've heard that a child doesn't officially "not like" a food until they have refused it fifteen times. I'm pretty sure we've reached that number for many of the food items we've tried.

I guess there is hope that eventually she will learn to eat different things, but I am definitely open to suggestions! If you have one, please, please, please leave a comment! I can't have the only toddler on the planet who is this picky!

How Many Diapers Does a Quad Family Need? *Diaper Deal!!*

Happily, the number of diapers that we go through per month has been drastically reduced since the babies first came home. These days, we go through roughly 600 daytime diapers and 140 nighttime diapers per month. That's still a lot of diapers!

This is most certainly not the blog to read for regular deal updates, but this is one deal that I absolutely must pass on!

Walgreens is having their buy-one-get-one free deal on diapers right now! It comes at a very VERY good time for our family since we just ran out of baby shower diapers in the last couple of months. Many thanks to my fellow quad mom, Jamie, for tipping me off that now is the time to stock up!

The deal is pretty simple (thank goodness!):

All Walgreen Brand Jumbo Diaper Packs are 2/$8.99. They are regularly 1/$8.99.

The problem with these types of deals is that most Walgreens only stock a few packages of diapers in each size. Before kids, I used to play the drug store game. When I found something I wanted to stock up on, I would drive around to a bunch of different stores until I found enough of what I was looking for.

These days, I don't have that kind of time. So this afternoon, I drove to my favorite Walgreens (yes, I do have a favorite Walgreens), and asked them to order 44 packages of Size 3 diapers. The manager was extremely accommodating and should have them in the store by late Friday afternoon so that I can pick them up that evening. It's worth asking at your local Walgreens if you are in need of diapers!

I ordered 44 packages of diapers which is enough to get us close to three months worth of diaper wearing. From what I understand, these deals tend to be on three month cycles with Walgreens. So stock up if you have babies, are pregnant, or are planning to go to a lot of baby showers soon! :)

We are currently subscribed to Amazon Mom which is the cheapest way that I can find to buy diapers without doing reward clubs and other things like that that require more brain cells than I have to spare at the moment. Since I'm stocking up on diapers this week, I'll be skipping my shipment from Amazon for the next few months.

These easy deals are definitely the type of shopping that I like to do these days!

Note: The Walgreens website is only showing Size 4 and up diapers at the 2/$8.99 price. However, all Walgreens Brand Jumbo packs are 2/$8.99 in stores! And this is a national deal!

Extra Note: Many of you have suggested buying diapers in bulk from Costco or Sam's Club. Huggies and Kirkland (Costco brand diapers) don't work for our kids and we don't have a membership to Sam's Club. Just about any diaper other than Huggies or Kirkland works for us though. So this is a great time for our family to stock up!
