Expert Consignment Sale Tips for the Just Between Friends Sale

Thank you to Just Between Friends Lee's Summit for sponsoring this post and for hosting a consignment sale that I love to shop at every spring and fall!

The other day, someone complimented me on my outfit, and I excitedly told them that I bought the entire thing at a discount store. The original commenter was impressed, but her friend standing next to her said, "Why would you say that?! I would have just said thank you and let her think I paid more for it."

Why? Well, because I LIKE the fact that I'm able to dress my family and go Christmas shopping for pennies on the dollar! What I like even more is that I can afford to buy nicer used things than I would be able to otherwise. And if I'm extra lucky, I can even find new things at STEEPLY discounted prices if I keep my eyes open. I don't mind talking about it, because I'd like to see every family save the kind of money we do by shopping smartly!

Let's be honest, I totally see it as a game now! #winning

One of the issues that quad families face is needing to buy four new wardrobes every season for their growing kids. There are no hand-me-downs within the family because everyone is the same size. How do we do it affordably? Consignment sale shopping!

One of my favorite places to shop for kids clothes, toys, shoes, and literally every other kid-thing imaginable is at the Just Between Friends Consignment sales twice a year. I go every February and August and stock up!

I have to show you some of my finds at past JBF sales!

The JBF Lee's Summit owner knows that I raid the shoe section every time I visit her sale. She kind of teases me about it now, because I leave with a whole bag full of shoes without fail. I found these almost new sandals for Abby at the spring sale for only $2. Yeah, $2!!!

Have you seen these adorable lace boutique dresses floating around on children's clothing sites? I had seen them and really wanted them for the girls, but I didn't want to pay boutique prices. I paid $9 for the pink one and $12 for the yellow one at the spring sale. and they were NEW!

At the last sale, I also found a whole box of new, shrink wrapped Disney DVDs! I ended up with Frozen (we wore out our first copy and needed a replacement) and Planes for the kids!

This is the toy section of the sale. So many toys. Oh my word....Did I mention that I like to do my Christmas shopping at the JBF fall sale? Toys are in such great condition and there are no boxes/zip ties to mess with on Christmas morning. It's great! If you are looking for bigger toys like play houses, play kitchens, wagons, bicycles, etc, walk in the door, and walk straight to the back of the toy section. They are along the wall at the back, and they go FAST!

This is another one of my favorite finds! I found these three trikes at the JBF sale last fall. I paid $35 total for all three of them! With the fourth one that we were given by a friend, we had enough for all of the kids.

I should stop there simply because if I don't, I'll be posting photos all night. You can see more on my Instagram and in past posts if you really want to see more examples.

Meanwhile, you really need to find yourself a block of time to visit this sale. Here are the details:

  1. If you are a First Time Parent, First Time Grandparent, Teacher, Foster Parent, Military Spouse, or a Mom of Multiples, click HERE to register for a FREE early pass into the sale to beat the crowds!
  2. If you don't fall into one of the presale groups OR you really want to have first pick of everything, pay the $10 and do the Prime Time Shopping. Even though I'm a Mom of Multiples, I still prefer the Prime Time Shopping because it gets me in even earlier. Totally worth the $10 because I more than make up for it in what I find by beating the crowds. Plus, the Prime Time Shopping fee benefits the JBF charities that they partner with!
  3. Bring the list of things you need, your kids' feet, and wear your tennis shoes. They will have a giant shopping bag, and a holding area for any finds you need saved for you while you shop!
  4. Follow @JBFAmber on Periscope for some behind the scenes peeks at the sale, and make sure you follow me @OilyRuckus on Periscope as well! I'm going to Periscope from a special presale event on August 27th before Prime Time opens and show you some of the fun stuff that you can grab this season! It will help you know where to run to first to grab items you are looking for!
  5. You can also subscribe to the JBF Lee's Summit Email Newsletter for extra info on shopping, selling, volunteering at the sale, and to track any sales that you make as a consignor.
  6. And lastly, stop by the JBF FaceBook page on August 25th at 9pm for a fun FaceBook party! They have been know to giveaway some JBF bucks and front of the line passes during their parties!

Hope to see y'all there! Just think, Christmas shopping can be finished by the end of the weekend and you'll still have money in your bank account! Whoohoo!!

This post was sponsored by Just Between Friends Lee's Summit because they know that I'm a consignment sale addict and love their sale so much! Even though this is a sponsored post, all words, opinions, and photos are mine. For more info, please see my disclaimer page.

Just Between Friends Consignment Sale is Back...and I Found GREAT Deals!

Thank you to JBF Lee's Summit for sponsoring this post! I love writing about something I already love and do anyway!

It is FREEZING in Kansas City today. The snow held off for all of December, January, and most of February, but over the last week, we've had (a little) snow and very cold temperatures. It's so cold that the heater in our van can't keep up (or it might be going out on us, but I'm hoping that's not the case!)
But nothing stops me from getting to the Just Between Friends Consignment Sale every spring and fall. It is clearly marked on the calendar because this sale is how we afford birthday gifts, Christmas gifts, shoes, and more. The selection is SO big, that I have no problem finding what I need for four kids in the same size and being able to coordinate everything as well. Ah, my type A personality is so happy!
Want to see a few of the things that I found at the Just Between Friends spring sale? Say yes, because I love sharing my finds!!

I decided to start in the movie section today. I normally go for the shoes first, but thought I'd see if there was anything fun that the kids might enjoy watching when school is out this summer. Oh. My. WORD. There were probably 30 Disney movies, new in box for just a few dollars! Aladin, Cinderella, Pocahantas, and many more. I picked out about $90 of movies that were worth about $200! I did end up whittling my selection down to about $40 of movies (because I found so much other stuff I had to get!), but my kids will be delighted that I bought everything from Disney's Cars to Princess Sophia, to Doc McStuffins to a new Mickey Mouse Clubhouse DVD to add to our collection!

Then I wandered for a bit to see what other fun things they had before buckling down in the shoes and clothing sections.

I found this ah-maz-ing dollhouse filling with furniture in the toy section. If only we had room in our house for something this cool! I couldn't stop thinking about how high quality, and big it was though. Plenty of room for all of the kids to play at the same time! And then I saw someone else wheel it out on a dolly. *sniff!* That's the only thing about these sales. If you see it and you like it, GRAB it! If you don't, someone will come along behind you and snatch up that great deal and you won't get another chance at it. That's my big piece of consignment sale advice for you today. "You snooze, you lose."

But happily, I found PLENTY to fill up my bag and our closets....SHOES!
Okay, so just being honest. The JBF owner and a lot of volunteers know who I am now. I've been shopping this sale twice a year for four years. I'm "the shoe lady". I come in during every sale and buy my kids shoes plus two sizes up. I don't mind the title because it is absolutely ridiculous to pay full price when you can find like new items for only a few dollars. "Shoe Lady" is a badge that I wear proudly. I mean, wouldn't you if you found an almost new pair of sandals for your daughter for $2??? Abby is going to be thrilled!

And then, I just couldn't help myself. The little girl dresses! Oh my word. It's one of the best parts of having little girls! Right now, my girls are ALL about dresses. They consider themselves princesses when they can twirl around and have a dress billow out. It is precious! So I had to do a little "princess dress" shopping. I found SO many adorable sundresses and church dresses for $4 and $5. And then I came across these dresses:

I grabbed the pink one for $9 and the yellow for $12...both brand new! Now I just need some warm weather so that I can dress my girls up!

If you are in the Kansas City area this weekend, this sale is definitely worth stopping at! Don't worry, I left plenty of good stuff for you!

Just Between Friends Consignment Sales...Time to Start Shopping for Christmas!

This is a sponsored post by Real Mom Media and Just Between Friends. Thank you for supporting our family and our blog! As always, all opinions and words are entirely my own.

This is your official notice! The fall consignment sale season starts NEXT WEEK!

The fall sales are always a really big deal for our family. Not only am I shopping for winter clothes and shoes, I'm also doing all of my Christmas shopping and birthday shopping at the fall sales. The next sales don't come around until after the kids' birthday, so I really have to be strategic about how I shop.
Hand's down, Just Between Friends is my favorite place to do my Christmas and Birthday shopping. They have a huge selection of gently used toys that are in great condition. Honestly, I can't rationalize spending money on brand new items because the used ones are just as great! If I have $30 to spend on each kid for Christmas, I can get them 1 new toy or 4-5 used toys. It's kind of a no-brainer. In fact, I always encourage the kids' grandparents to shop the sales and save money on our kids as well.

And besides that, my kids would rather not wait for us to figure out how to take all of those plastic ties off of the new items in boxes.

So yeah, I know it's still August, but I already have Christmas on my brain. If you want to join me at one of the Just Between Friends sales in Kansas City, you can find details below. And if you don't live here, check their website for the sale nearest to you!

Shopping Tip! Click through to the JBF website for the sale you want to attend. They have tons of early admission passes for military, teachers, first time moms, even parents of multiples! So I have to ask, does anyone else out there start Christmas shopping this early? :)

Just Between Friends Consignment Sales are Back!

The following is a sponsored post. Thank you for supporting our family and our blog! As always, all opinions and words are entirely my own.

Well, this is clearly becoming a regular thing!

I just did a search for previous posts that I've written about consignment sale shopping, and let's just say that I come across as kind of a consignment sale fanatic. And rightly so!

Here is how it works for normal families:
Mommy and Daddy bring home a baby. After two or three years, a second baby is born. Baby #2 wears and uses everything that Baby #1 has already grown out of. Essentially, Mommy and Daddy can buy one wardrobe for a girl and one wardrobe for a boy, and be pretty well set for any number of children they have, just picking up a few incidentals as needed. (I'm the oldest of six, so I saw this in action growing up!)

Here is how it works for our family:
Mommy and Daddy bring home Baby #1, Baby #2, Baby #3, and Baby #4 at the same time. There are two babies of each gender. Mommy and Daddy have to buy four new wardrobes every time they need a new size or a new season starts because everyone is the same size.

Can you see the $$$ just floating away? Completely unaffordable. Completely.

So I use consignment sales to keep our kids in clothes, shoes, birthday and Christmas gifts, coats, learning activities, books, movies...goodness, just about everything. And I start to get a little excited about this time of year because:

Consignment Sale Season is Starting!

If you haven't tried consignment sale shopping, you HAVE to put this on your bucket list.Whether you have one kids or quads like me, it is an excellent way to save money (50-90% below retail!) without sacrificing quality (everything is checked for condition). I've even convinced both sets of grandparents to do their Christmas and birthday shopping at consignment sales too. More bang for the buck!

So I'd like to invite you to join me at one of my favorite consignments sales: Just Between Friends!
Below are the details for the sales in the metro Kansas City area. If you don't live here, you can find more sales all over the country on the Just Between Friends website!

Just Between Friends Consignment Sale + A Giveaway!

I love consignment sales. Love them. I can't imagine what moms did prior to these becoming popular, because paying retail prices for kids clothing is so expensive!

Every spring and fall, the consignment season is in full swing in Kansas City. There are many different sales all over the metro, but I make a point of putting two on my calendar as can't miss events. One is the sale that my multiples group puts on, and the other is the Just Between Friends-Lee's Summit Sale.

We do ALL of our kids shopping at these two sales: clothes, shoes, birthday and Christmas gifts, kid movies, coats, random extra kid stuff, etc. And yes, I do manage to find just about everything I need for four kids who are the same size this way.

Why do we do this? While, it's true that we don't have the income level to buy everything new, a better question is, why wouldn't we? It's brilliantly set-up. I can do all of my shopping, for an entire season, in one place, for pennies on the dollar. It's just smart shopping!
I'm a huge fan of the Just Between Friends (JBF) Sale because of the massive selection that they have. I was originally introduced to it by a twin mom friend just after my kids were born. Holy moley. It was like being set loose in a chocolate store. Everything I could ever need was right there...and it was affordable!

On top of that, JBF offers Presale Shopping Groups that people can sign up for, for FREE! They open at various times the Friday before the sale opens to the public:
  • First Time Parents (first child born within the last year)
  • First Time Grandparents (first grandchild born within the last year)
  • Teachers
  • Foster Parents
  • Military Spouses
  • Moms of Multiples  <---this is the one I sign up for!!
And if you don't fit any of those categories, they do have an additional Friday presale available that anyone can shop for a $10 admission fee. The sale runs through Tuesday with many items being discounted to 25% and 50% off the last two days of the sale. You can find preemie through size 16 clothing items, in addition to maternity clothes.

This event goes on my calendar every spring and summer, and I enter the doors armed with a long list, my kids feet traced onto cardstock (to measure for shoe sizes!), and a friend for company. I'd love to see you there! This time, I'll be starting in the shoe section looking for lots of sandals to get us through the summer.

Last week, Just Between Friends-Lee's Summit emailed me to see if I wanted to give away a Media Pass and a $25 gift certificate to one of my readers for their upcoming spring/summer sale February 16th-19th. Of course, I said yes! This is a sale I personally shop, enjoy, and find extremely valuable, and I think you will too!

Because of how quickly the sale is coming up, this giveaway has a relatively short time frame. If you win, the Media Pass and gift certificate will only be valid at the Lee's Summit location during the spring/summer sale dates in February 2013. The Media Pass will allow you to get into the Media Presale that is open on Friday, February 15th from 10am-6pm. You may use the gift certificate anytime during that presale or over the rest of the weekend. After that, it will be void.

Please use the Rafflecopter giveaway below to enter. The first two tasks are not optional and must be completed to qualify for this giveaway. If you choose the "anonymous option" to comment, please at least include your first name and first letter of your last name. It's next to impossible to verify comment entries without names! The additional entry tasks are optional. Winning entries will be validated prior to announcing the winner with an alternate drawn if the entries cannot be verified.

a Rafflecopter giveaway
The contest ends at 11:59pm on Wednesday, January 30th. The winner will be announced and contacted by email on Thursday, January 31st. The winner will have 24 hours to respond to the email with their information so that the prize can be forwarded to them. A Beautiful Ruckus is not responsible for the delivery of the prize and is not responsible if the sponsor does not deliver. This giveaway is open to residents of the United States. A Beautiful Ruckus received a presale pass and gift certificate in exchange for posting this giveaway. For further information, please see my  disclaimer page.

Consignment Sale Season is Starting!!

I'm a big fan of consignment sales!

I've found that not only are the clothes in better condition than what can typically be found at garage sales, but they are so much cheaper than buying retail. There are awesome deals on toys and just about any other baby accessory imaginable at these things! I did all of the babies' Christmas shopping at a consignment sale in August last year.

I'm also a big fan of hitting pre-sales at consignment sales. Best selection and less of a crowd. I have a consignment sale coming up through my multiples group in March, but there is also another one coming up on Friday that I'm super excited about. They have just opened up a new pre-sale time for Mothers of Multiples at this consignment sale. Whoohoo!!

I wanted to make sure that y'all knew about it in case you know a multiples mom who could use the info:
